Gift Card Safety Tips

A quick guide to make sure your gift cards are enjoyed by the right person

We Want You to Have a Great Experience

We send this page to customers because we genuinely want every gift card purchase to bring joy. Most of our customers are buying gifts for family, friends, or themselves — and that's wonderful. This page is simply a quick read to help you get the most value from your purchase.

Who Is This Gift Card For?

Gift cards are one of the most popular gifts in the world. They're perfect for birthdays, holidays, or just saying "thank you." Before you share your card with anyone, it's worth asking yourself a few simple questions:

  • Have I met this person in real life, or at least on a live video call? — If the gift card is for someone you know well, great! If it's for someone you've only talked to online, it may be worth a quick video call first to make sure they are who they say they are.
  • Is this person asking me to send the code instead of the card itself? — When you give a real gift, you usually hand it over directly. If someone is asking you to read out the code over the phone or text it, that's unusual — a real friend or family member would be happy to receive the card itself.
  • Does this feel rushed? — A genuine gift doesn't come with a deadline. If someone is pressuring you to buy and share a code right now, take a step back. There's no harm in waiting a day.
  • Has this person asked me to keep it a secret? — Real gifts don't need to be hidden from your family or friends. If someone asks you not to tell anyone, ask yourself why.
  • Am I being asked to use gift cards as a payment method? — Gift cards are designed to be gifts, not payments. No legitimate business, government agency, or employer will ever ask you to pay with gift cards.

If you answered "yes" to any of the questions above, we encourage you to pause, talk to a friend or family member you trust, and take your time. There is never a reason to rush.

Tips for a Great Gift Card Experience

  • Keep your codes private — treat gift card codes like cash. Once shared, they can be redeemed by anyone
  • Give to people you know — the best gifts go to people you have a real relationship with
  • Verify before you share — a quick video call can confirm someone's identity and save a lot of worry
  • Take your time — a good gift doesn't expire overnight. If you feel pressured, slow down
  • Talk to someone you trust — if anything feels off, get a second opinion from a friend or family member
  • Save your receipt — keep your order confirmation email so you have a record of your purchase

A Friendly Reminder

Once a gift card code is shared and redeemed, it cannot be reversed or refunded — just like handing someone cash. Please make sure you're comfortable with who will be using your card before sharing the code.
